Participation details<ul><li>Hacktoberfest is open to everyone in our global community. Whether you’re a seasoned contributor or looking for projects to contribute to for the first time, you’re welcome to participate.</li><li>Pull requests can be made in any GitHub-hosted repositories/projects. As long as the project is public and GitHub-hosted, your pull requests will count toward your participation.</li><li>You can sign up anytime between October 1 and October 31. Just be sure to sign up on the official Hacktoberfest website for your pull requests to count.</li></ul>
Participation rules
To get a shirt, you must make four pull requests (PRs) between October 1–31 in any time zone. Pull requests can be to any public repository on GitHub, not just the ones highlighted. The pull request must contain commits you made yourself. If a maintainer reports your pull request as spam, it will not be counted toward your participation in Hacktoberfest. If a maintainer reports behavior that’s not in line with the project’s code of conduct, you will be ineligible to participate. This year, the first 75,000 participants can earn a T-shirt.

As long as you registered for Hacktoberfest, you’ll still get some free stickers in the mail. So it’s still worth registering, even if you’re too busy to participate.

Q. I completed four pull requests. When will I receive my T-shirt?
T-shirts (or the option to plant a tree) will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis to the first 70,000 participants who successfully complete the Hacktoberfest challenge. We’ll start sending out emails with more details on redeeming T-shirts throughout the month, so stay tuned.

In today’s era of computers, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_computing">Quantum computing</a> is no doubt one of the hottest topics at the current frontiers of computing, or even of the whole science. It sounds very attractive and looks very promising. There are several natural basic questions to ask before we start to explore the concepts and principles as well as the mystery and potentials of quantum computing. What is quantum computing?
Quantum computing is the area of study focused on developing computer technology based on the principles of quantum theory, which explains the nature and behavior of energy and matter on the quantum (atomic and subatomic) level. 
Why quantum computing?
Quantum computing is a potential. There are already results convincingly demonstrating that for some important practical problems quantum computers are theoretically exponentially more powerful than classical computers. Such results, as<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shor%27s_algorithm"> SHOR’S FACTORIZATION ALGORITHM</a>, can be seen as apt killers for <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_computing">QUANTUM COMPUTING</a> and have enormously increased activity in this area. In addition, the laws of the quantum world, harvested through quantum cryptography, can offer, in view of our current knowledge, unconditional security of communication, unachievable by classical means.

Open source is a term that originally referred to open source software (OSS). Open source software is code that is designed to be publicly accessible—anyone can see, modify, and distribute the code as they see fit.
Open source software is developed in a decentralized and collaborative way, relying on peer review and community production. Open source software is often cheaper, more flexible, and has more longevity than its proprietary peers because it is developed by communities rather than a single author or company.
Open source has become a movement and a way of working that reaches beyond software production. The open source movement uses the values and decentralized production model of open source software to find new ways to solve problems in their communities and industries. Closed source software can be defined as proprietary software distributed under a licensing agreement to authorized users with private modification, copying, and republishing restrictions.
Or in layman terms, the source code is not shared with the public for anyone to look at or change. Closed source is the opposite of open source. 
Closed source is actually the sort of arrangement that you would expect from most businesses, protective of their product and keen to maintain control over their brand and the user experience offered to their customers. Think Apple rather than Android, windows rather than linux.

Introduction to Open Source

There are a lot of different editors and it largely boils down to personal preference. Most Python programmers use complex but extremely powerful IDEs (Integrated Development Environments), such as PyCharm. As a beginner, however, that's probably less suitable; our recommendations are equally powerful, but a lot simpler.In the 1960s, using only computer terminals, this was the only way to interact with computers. In the 1970s and 1980s, command line input was commonly used by Unix systems and PC systems like MS-DOS and Apple DOS. Today, with graphical user interfaces (GUI), most users never use command-line interfaces (CLI). However, CLI is still used by software developers and system administrators to configure computers, install software, and access features that are not available in the graphical interface.
